8th Grade U.S. History covers the discovery of the "New World" all the way to the Reconstruction of the United States after the Civil War. There is "literally" a lot of history between that time and it ranges from early Native Americans to Viking Exploration, the Discovery by Columbus in 1492, the American Revolution in the late 1700s, the Agricultural Revolution in the Mid 1800s, the Civil War, and the restructuring of the South after the war. For this class we will briefly discuss the early explores and Native Americans and quickly get into the colonization of North America. We will move from there into the French and Indian War and the events leading up to the American Revolution. Colonies become states and the Westward expansion begins through the idea of Manifest Destiny. This is what makes our country so much different than European Countries because we claimed and fought for all the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific. We will finish the year working on studying the U.S. Constitution and preparing for the Naturalization Test that they will take in April. Passing the Naturalization Test is a state requirement for high school graduation in Oklahoma.
