Farm to School...Sequoyah Raised
Sequoyah's Child Nutrition Program utilized ODAFF's (Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry) Local Food for Schools grant to buy a locally raised steer from Sequoyah High Schoool FFA student Tumbleweed Swisher. After months of dedicated work raising the steer as part of his FFA show projects, it was sold to our Child Nutrition Program and processed at Dorsey Processing (Pryor). The beef will be featured in cafeteria menu items such as "Tumbleweed's Tacos" and "Swisher's Burgers".
This program not only offers students nutritious, locally sourced, minimally processed food but also supports young Oklahoma producers.
Another great project connecting agricultural learning with healthy eating!
