Dear Sequoyah Students and Parents,

Well it’s that time of year again for us to start back to school. Hopefully everyone took advantage of the extended break and got some things checked off that “To do” list. With that being said it’s time to get back to business.

I know several of you may be very apprehensive about returning to school. At the same time there are others who are ready and eager to return. No matter what side of the fence you’re on, you can rest assured that Sequoyah Public School will take every precaution to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each and every student. Sequoyahans will be asked to work together in order ensure the wellbeing of everybody. We will all be asked to take the Eagle pledge. Every student and parent will receive copies of and be expected to follow the 3 pillars of protection described in the Eagle pledge.

There will be several changes here at the middle school. First and foremost, please keep in mind that these changes are necessary in order to keep our kids, our faculty, and our community as safe as possible. All visitors entering the building will be required to wear a mask and have their temperature taken. This will occur in a designated area of the middle school office. Parents not wanting to enter the building or who are not feeling well can call in to have a student released. We will be encouraging kids to wear masks in certain areas. We will be hand sanitizing before every class. If a student goes home with a temperature they cannot return until they are temperature free for 72 hours or with a signed doctor’s note. We will not be doing perfect attendance awards or semester test exemptions based on attendance. We are asking for your support as we implement these changes and procedures.

The staff here at the middle school is excited and ready to return to school. We’re ready to get going in the classroom as well as on the football field, the volleyball court, the softball field, the cross country course, and the FFA arena. We are determined to do everything possible to create and foster a safe environment in order to allow our kids and community to participate in and enjoy the activities that are important to them. With all that being said, “Welcome Back.” Let’s have a great year together as we build relationships, memories, friendships, team spirit and strive to achieve academic excellence.
