High School Principal's Message
Welcome Back, Sequoyah High School Families!
I hope everyone had a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer. We are excited to be back and are looking forward to a great 2025–2026 school year at Sequoyah High School!
Like every new school year, this one brings changes—but also opportunities. I’m excited to reconnect with returning students, welcome new faces, continue building strong relationships with our faculty, renew old friendships in the community, and form new ones.
One important initiative we will continue this year is our Log Off and Learn (BELL TO BELL) approach. This effort is focused on removing distractions in the classroom so we can return the focus to what matters most—learning. We believe this benefits both students and teachers alike.
To help keep you informed, we will continue using multiple communication channels:
-
School Messenger
-
Email
-
District Website
-
District and High School/Mid-High Facebook Pages
As always, you are welcome to contact the High School Office with any questions or concerns related to your child.
Character Development Focus
Character development will remain a key focus at Sequoyah High School. We will encourage students to do things the right way, the first time, with a great attitude.
Our character words are:
-
Honesty
-
Integrity
-
Pride
-
Dedication
-
Accountability
-
Work Ethic
-
Leadership
-
Respectful
-
Punctuality
These are not just school values—they are values that our local businesses, corporations, teachers, and community members look for when hiring and mentoring students.
Vision and Mission: Preparing Students for L.I.F.E.
This year, we are proud to begin formally implementing the vision and mission our staff worked hard to develop last year.
Vision: L.I.F.E.
-
L – Leading students in a direction that exemplifies a commitment to a life-long of learning.
-
I – Investing in our students daily to instill character, LIFE skills, and LIFE lessons so they can be independent and prepared for LIFE.
-
F – FINISH what you start.
-
E – Empowering students with the knowledge, skills, resources, and opportunity to gain experience that will prepare them for a successful LIFE.
Mission:
“Preparing students for L.I.F.E.”
This mission will guide our instruction, mentorship, and the integration of the character traits we’ve been reinforcing over the past few years.
Daily Expectations for Students
We understand that transitioning from summer to the school routine can be difficult. A successful start requires consistency, good time management, and rest. Please help encourage your student to:
-
Get a good night’s sleep.
-
Stay organized and proactive with classwork.
Our four daily expectations at Sequoyah High School:
Be to school on time.
-
Be to class on time.
-
Submit all class assignments on time.
-
Follow the student handbook.
Meeting these expectations and building good dependable character habits prepares students not just for school but for LIFE beyond graduation.
Attendance, Tardies & Grade Monitoring
-
Students are allowed 7 absences per semester. Beyond that, they will be required to attend Tuesday Night School to make up for lost instructional time.
-
Tardies are monitored closely. Accumulated tardies may result in detentions or Tuesday Night School, per the student handbook policy.
Academic Monitoring:
If a student is on the ineligibility list for four consecutive weeks, a parent meeting will be scheduled. A letter will be sent home for the parent to sign, and the student will be assigned to an Academic Tuesday Night School session. This additional support has proven successful in helping students get back on track and improve their grades over the past seven years.
Parent Access to Grades & Attendance
We encourage all parents to monitor their child’s grades and attendance through our student grade book system.
